In partnership with Riipen, First Work and South Essex Community Council (SECC) are delivering Building Tech Careers in the Agri-Food Sector—a hybrid, 8-week cohort-based program aimed at equipping youth and newcomers in Southwestern Ontario with digital and technical skills for employment in the agriculture sector. The program combines classroom instruction, industry-led site tours, and a three-week unpaid placement, offering real-world exposure and practical experience. Participants will develop both soft and technical skills, earn industry-relevant certifications (e.g., WHMIS, food safety, electrical fundamentals), and receive job placement support including mentorship, mock interviews, and networking opportunities.
Riipen is proud to support First Work in implementing work-integrated learning opportunities within this program. Through employer-driven projects and collaborations with employment service providers, participants will apply their learning in real-world contexts while employers identify and develop emerging talent. This partnership bridges the gap between jobseekers and employment by combining practical training with impactful industry engagement.
